Soapbox speed + STEAM-powered creativity = pure Macon zoom-zoom and vroom-vroom!

Since its grassroots revival in 2009 by a dedicated crew of local volunteers, the Magnolia Soapbox Derby has shifted into high gear as one of the nation’s largest soapbox events, drawing dozens of custom-built cars to the track. Downtown Macon revs up as thousands gather to celebrate ingenuity, friendly competition, and the full-throttle power of STEAM—Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. From professional racers to brilliantly engineered student creations, the derby offers a little something for everyone to experience and be part of. Attendees line Magnolia Street as a pit crew of cheerleaders and active spectators, fueling every thrilling run with their energy and support.
