Alliant Health Plans has notified affected members that some protected health information (PHI) may have been disclosed through a mass mailing.
On November 19, 2024, Alliant became aware that Welcome Letters intended for individual members may have contained a duplicate letter addressed to another member.
An immediate investigation revealed that the issue stemmed from a page number indicator on the mailing list and resulted in “double stuffing’” each envelope. Alliant was not able to definitively determine the number of affected members until 12/19/24.
The data that may have been exposed included the member’s name and address. And although Alliant believes there is a low probability this information could be used in a harmful manner due to the limited nature; steps have been taken to ensure oversight and cross-checking of future mailings to prevent this from occurring again.
Alliant sent letters to notify affected members of the breach on January 17, 2025.
