What Is the Pharmacy Lock‑In Program?

Starting July 1, 2026, Alliant Health Plans is implementing a Pharmacy Lock-In Program to help members use medications safely and improve overall care.
Members in the program are assigned one pharmacy to use to fill all their prescriptions during the lock-in period. Using one pharmacy helps pharmacists and doctors work together to better track medications, prevent unsafe drug combinations, and reduce the risk of medication misuse or overuse.

This program supports member safety, improves coordination of care, and helps members receive the right medication in a safe and effective way.

Why This Program Exists

The program creates safeguards for members to:

  • Prevent unsafe medication combinations
  • Reduce unnecessary or duplicate prescriptions
  • Improve coordination between your doctor, pharmacist, and health plan

How Members Are Selected

The Alliant Pharmacy Team, working together with our Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM), reviews prescription information using standard clinical guidelines. Members may be chosen for the program if additional monitoring can help improve medication safety.

Advance Notification

If you are selected, you will receive a letter at least 30 days before your participation begins.
Your letter will clearly state:

  • When your lock‑in starts
  • Which pharmacy you must use as part of the lock-in program
  • How long you’ll be in the program
  • Your appeal rights, including how to request a change in the selected lock-in pharmacy

What You Need To Do

If enrolled, fill all your prescriptions at the pharmacy listed in your letter. Your doctor will send prescriptions directly to that pharmacy.
